The Turkish president issues instructions to tighten procedures for granting citizenship to immigrants


The Turkish Minister of Interior, Ali Yerlikaya, gave an interesting briefing to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan regarding combating irregular migration.

The Turkish Minister of Interior conveyed to the President the dissatisfaction of Turkish citizens with irregular immigrants, and asked him to issue instructions regarding taking strict measures against them.

He clarified in his intervention that there are some abuses in the acquisition of Turkish citizenship by foreigners.

He also requested the introduction of new restrictions on Turkish citizenship granted exceptionally, pointing to the occurrence of a commercial market to obtain Turkish citizenship in recent times.

Based on the briefing, President Erdoğan requested that all necessary steps be taken to combat irregular migration and to tighten procedures for granting Turkish citizenship to immigrants.
