The Turkish president face an occurred incident during Turkish military demonstration
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has vowed to expel what he called limitless exploiters who took part in a controversial military demonstration from the armed forces, in light of investigations being conducted jointly by the university and the defense ministry.
In light of the controversy surrounding the officer’s demonstration incident that has been preoccupying Türkiye in recent days, President Erdogan seemed decisive when he announced the opening of an investigation on the incident, addressing the graduates of the Military College with the question, “For whom are you brandishing those swords?!”
The incident was carried out by graduates of the National Defense University’s War College, following a graduation ceremony attended by senior state officials, led by President Erdogan.
The demonstration took place last Saturday, when dozens of Turkish officers’ cadets graduating from the National Defense University’s Land War College held a second oath-taking ceremony after they had already taken it at the official graduation ceremony.
This parallel ceremony wasn’t part of the official ceremony program for the students of the Land, Naval and Air War Colleges together.
During the parallel ceremony, the military graduates recited the oath again, before it turned into a demonstration in which they raised their swords and chanted, “We’re the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal,” in reference to the founder of the republic, Atatürk.
These circulated scenes were described as a political message and signs of rebellion against the government, and were reminiscent of military coups, after which the media and platforms were filled with discussions about them.
Its noteworthy that secular circles and opposition parties, led by the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), announced their support for the behavior of the military graduates.
In contrast to Erdogan, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) had described the graduates’ behavior a few days ago, through its spokesman, Omer Celik.
