The Algerian president wins the election for a second term with 94% of votes
The Independent Election Authority in Algeria, announced the victory of the country’s President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for a second presidential term, as he obtained 94.65% of the votes.
According to the announced results, candidate Abdelaali Hassani Cherif, head of the Movement for a Peaceful Society, came in second place with 3.17% of the votes, while candidate Youcef Aouchiche, first secretary of the Socialist Forces Front, received 2.16% and came in third and last place.
The electoral committee reported that the participation rate in the elections held on Saturday reached 48.03%, while the participation rate among the Algerian community residing abroad reached 19.57%.
This percentage is higher than that recorded in the 2019 presidential elections, when it reached 41.14% inside the country and 9.69% outside it.
After the results were announced, the campaign of presidential candidate Abdelaali Hassani Cherif issued a statement saying that it had recorded violations in the elections and unacceptable administrative practices by the National Independent Election Authority, including pressure on some polling station supervisors to inflate the results, failure to deliver the counting reports to the candidates’ representatives, and also group voting by proxy.
