The Turkish president denounces social media fascism towards Palestinians

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday denounced the fascist of social media sites that cannot even allow pictures of Palestinian martyrs, and impose immediate censorship on them.

On the fourth day of blocking Instagram, the Turkish president appeared to confirm the political motives for this unjustified decision.

“We’re facing a digital fascism that cannot even allow images of Palestinian martyrs and immediately ban them,” he told ruling AKP party officials in Ankara.

“These companies have declared war on the glorious resistance and the heroes of the Palestinian people in the virtual world… We see them acting like a mafia every time their interests are at stake”.

“This is not new… We’ve seen them act according to double standards when it comes to Türkiye… Lying and provocations have become the hallmark of these platforms”.

“They respect the rules in America and Europe, but they deliberately condone them when it comes to fighting content crimes in Türkiye,” Erdogan said.

He stressed that he tried to have a dialogue, but we haven’t yet been able to fully establish the desired cooperation with these companies.

Türkiye Monday continued to block the Instagram app for the fourth consecutive day.

Türkiye’s Information and Communications Technology Authority announced the blocking decision on Friday morning, without giving any explanation.

Censorship was suspected on Friday immediately after criticism expressed by the head of the Turkish presidency’s communications department, Fahrettin Altun.

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced on X that an afternoon meeting would be held with representatives of the platform, citing sensitivities, and controversial content.
