The Turkish presidency issued statements by Erdogan about his upcoming meeting with Assad
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a series of statements about the normalization of relations with Syria and his upcoming meeting with Syrian President Bashar al Assad, as he returned from Washington to Türkiye after the NATO summit.
Erdogan explained that the location of the meeting will be determined by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, based on his talks with the Syrian side.
Fidan is currently working on a roadmap through his talks with his counterparts, and accordingly the necessary step will be taken soon, he added.
Erdogan noted that the process is moving in a positive direction, expressing hope that concrete steps will be taken soon, and that achieving a just peace in Syria will greatly benefit Türkiye.
Peace in Syria is also in the interest of Türkiye, he said, adding that the integrity and unity of Syria’s territory is also in the interest of Türkiye.
He noted that the most important step in this process is to start a new era with Syria, and called on both the United States and Iran to support the normalization of relations between Türkiye and Syria.
He stressed the efforts Türkiye has been making for years to extinguish the fire raging in Syria.
Erdogan stressed that Türkiye looks forward to leaving no one disturbed by the climate that will allow Syria to build a new and unified future.
He warned that terrorist organizations will do their utmost to poison this path in Syria and plan provocations, but Türkiye are well aware of this and are ready to confront them.
