Sources in Ankara, revealed that the Turkish intelligence service informed the members of the Syrian opposition coalition that they should leave Turkish territory before the end of this year (2022).

The Syrian opposition coalition, whose activities are based in Türkiye, came after a political decision that was taken in Türkiye recently against the background of the (Syrian-Turkish) rapprochement under the auspices of Russia.

Sources revealed that the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan decided to close all the offices of the “opposition coalition” in Türkiye, and to stop funding its members according to a specific timetable that ends at the end of this year at the latest.

A number of members of the Syrian opposition coalition were informed by the Turkish security services of the need to find another place to practice the political activities of the Syrian opposition, provided that it be outside Turkish territory, and to end all political and media activities related to this coalition no later than the end of the year.

Sources confirmed that those who wish to be members of the coalition who have Turkish citizenship or permanent residence will be allowed to stay on Turkish territory, but without engaging in any political or media activity.

The sources added that “the members of the coalition have already begun to search for other options to open offices for them in some Gulf countries”.

Over the past years, Ankara has been securing special offices for the Syrian Opposition Coalition on its territory, in addition to allocating its members with monthly salaries in addition to a package of other privileges.
