The Russian president ordered a new conscription campaign aiming to recruit 133,000
The Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the recruitment of 133,000 new personnel in a conscription campaign that will run from Oct. 1 to the end of the year.
The Kremlin issued a decree published Monday in the Russian state newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta, stipulating the recruitment of citizens aged 18 to 30 who aren’t in the reserve forces and who meet the conditions for compulsory conscription in accordance with federal law… up to 133,000 individuals.
In September, Putin ordered the size of the Russian military to be increased by about 180,000 troops to 1.5 million active personnel, citing growing threats on Russia’s western borders, a move that would make Russia’s military the world’s second-largest after China’s.
