The Russian glide bombs… A Russian game changer in Ukraine
Western and Ukrainian media reports indicate that Moscow is developing and mass producing the FAB-1500-M54 glide bomb, which weighs one and a half tons.
This bomb was modernized with a weight of 1.5 tons, and the German Bild newspaper revealed that it had begun mass production.
Russia used this bomb earlier when it dropped it on a building in the city of Krasnohorivka near Donetsk.
The explosion was filmed from different angles, as the bomb appeared targeting a residential area and exploding in a loud fireball.
According to media reports, the Russian military is using these bombs, killing about 50 Ukrainian soldiers every day.
In the fall of 2023, the establishment of serial production of FAB-1500 aerial bombs were announced, which after a long period of time were improved and provided the first successful application.
The Russian Army is rebuilding the bomb from scratch within the Russian Federation and changing air-frames to mount it.
The FAB-1500 bomb is a new threat to Ukrainian forces, as Russian aircraft can launch it from a safe distance.
This bomb has a range of 70-80 kilometers and can be carried on the Su-34 tactical bomber, making Ukraine’s defensive measures limited.
The FAB-1500-M54 bomb is known to contain 675 kg of explosives and is considered a serious threat to Ukrainian military infrastructure, especially given Russia’s ability to evade Ukrainian air defenses.
