Russia’s defense ministry said Wednesday it had shot down 128 Ukrainian drones overnight over various Russian regions and the Crimean Peninsula, in one of the largest such attacks targeting Russia since the start of the war.

Kyiv has intensified its air strikes on energy and military installations on Russian territory in recent months, in a campaign launched in response to the ongoing Russian bombing of its cities and infrastructure since February 2022.

The Russian defense ministry said in a statement that air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 128 Ukrainian drones last night, including 83 over the Krasnodar region and 30 over the Crimean peninsula, which Moscow annexed in 2014.

In addition to the Krasnodar region, known for its Black Sea resorts, the attack targeted the Bryansk and Kursk regions of Russia bordering Ukraine, according to the same source.

No serious damage on the ground was immediately reported by Russian media or authorities.
