The Republican Party in United States officially chose, on Monday, Donald Trump, as a candidate to run in the presidential elections scheduled for November 5.

This was according to the statement related to the election at the Republican convention held in Milwaukee.

The statement said Trump received the required votes, saying, “The Republican Party has chosen Donald Trump as its candidate for the presidential election scheduled for November 5”.

Trump, who served as president of the United States between 2017 and 2021, has previously announced that his vice-presidential candidate is Ohio Republican Senator James David Vance.

At dawn on Sunday, former US President Donald Trump was the target of an assassination attempt, where he was shot while giving a speech at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.

“I’m fine and undergoing medical tests,” Trump said after the shooting, while gunshots were heard during Trump’s speech and blood was seen on his ear.

The former US President Donald Trump on Monday chose Ohio Republican Senator J.D. Vance to run with him on the vice-presidential ticket.

Vance had previously criticized Trump in scathing terms but later became one of his strongest defenders.

Trump’s Truth Social platform reported the news as the four-day Republican National Convention began in Milwaukee to announce the party’s presidential nominee.

On the other hand, US President Joe Biden accused second-term candidate James David Vance, who was chosen by Donald Trump as vice presidential candidate in his presidential campaign, of favoring the wealthy, while the Democratic candidate’s campaign described him as an extremist and anti-abortion.

Biden wrote on X that Vance and Trump want to raise taxes on middle-class families while boosting tax cuts for the rich, while the Biden campaign denounced Vance as an extremist who denies the outcome of the 2020 election, and supports a nationwide abortion ban.
