German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock on Monday began a two-day visit to Senegal as part of a two-day West African tour that also includes Ivory Coast.

The head of German diplomacy is expected to discuss with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, and with her Senegalese counterpart, Yassine Aval, about joint cooperation between the two countries.

On Monday, Baerbock met with Minister for Infrastructure, Land and Air Transport Malik Andaye and visited the Dakar Express Bus System, funded by the EU’s Global Gateway Initiative.

After her visit to Senegal, Baerbock is expected to hold talks in Abidjan with Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara and Foreign Minister Kaku Houaga Leon Adom on cooperation between Germany and Ivory Coast.

Migration and strengthening cooperation in the field of renewable energy are the most important issues that the German minister will discuss during this African tour.

German media quoted a spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry as saying that Senegal and Ivory Coast were important countries for the stability of the region, and key economic partners for Germany.
