The Qassam Brigades launched the largest attack on a newly constructed Israeli site southeast of Khan Yunis
The Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, released a video on Sunday as part of the “David attacks series” the largest attack targeting an Israeli military site since October 7, 2023.
On Sunday, the Qassam Brigades broadcast footage of its fighters storming and raiding a newly established Israeli military site southeast of Khan Yunis (southern Gaza Strip).
The Qassam Brigades explained, via its Telegram channel, that the raid took place on August 20, as part of the “Stones of David” series of operations.
The scenes included Qassam fighters preparing to storm the newly established Israeli position, then attacking it with anti-tank missiles and firearms.
A Qassam field commander said that fighters monitored the location of the operation—despite complete air control—and gathered accurate information 24 hours before the operation, after studying the behavior of the occupation forces during their ground maneuvers inside the Gaza Strip.
According to the Qassam commander, the fighters took complete control of the operation site, inflicting casualties on the occupation forces.
The footage showed Qassam fighters emerging from the mouth of a tunnel and advancing toward a military position, using firearms and anti-tank missiles, and engaging in armed clashes before the fighters withdrew.
The footage also included flames and black smoke erupting at the site of the operation as a result of the Qassam attack, amidst the fighters’ chants of “Allahu is Great”.
According to the Qassam commander, the fighters’ eyes are on the lookout, waiting for the right moment to attack the occupation forces wherever they are located.
He stressed that the will to fight still exists despite Israeli orders to evacuate residential areas in retaliation for the killing of leaders, soldiers, and various segments of the Palestinian people.
During a planning session prior to the operation, one of the fighters acknowledged the martyrdom of prominent Qassam commander Mohammed Sinwar, emphasizing that the Qassam Brigades are a military school whose fighters are fully convinced of God’s victory.
On August 20, Qassam Brigades announced that its fighters had raided a newly constructed enemy position southeast of Khan Yunis, with a force consisting of an infantry platoon.
According to the announcement, Qassam fighters targeted the site and a number of Merkava 4 guard tanks with a number of Shawaaz bombs, suicide bombs, and al Yassin 105 shells.
They also targeted a number of houses where occupation soldiers were holed up, firing six anti-fortification and anti-personnel missiles and machine gun fire.
According to Qassam, a number of its fighters stormed homes and killed a number of occupation soldiers inside at point-blank range with light weapons and hand grenades.
They also managed to snipe the commander of a Merkava 4 tank, fatally wounding him.
Qassam fighters shelled the sites surrounding the operation site with mortar shells to cut off the rescue forces, before shelling the operation site itself with mortar shells to secure the fighters’ withdrawal.
In the statement, Qassam Brigades confirmed that, upon the rescue force’s arrival, a suicide bomber detonated himself among the soldiers, killing and wounding them.
The statement noted that the attack lasted for hours, and that its fighters monitored the landing of evacuation helicopters.
About 24 hours after the Qassam operation in Khan Yunis, the Israeli military submitted an official investigation that revealed information indicating that the attack was executed similarly to the October 7, 2023, attack.
