The Pentagon responds on the news regarding intentions to build a military base in Ayn al Arab “Kobani” northern Syria
The Pentagon issued a response on Friday to reports that the US military has begun building a new base in northeastern Syria, after videos emerged showing concrete barriers bearing the US flag being transported on a trailer.
Pentagon Deputy Spokesperson Sabrina Singh categorically denied these reports, stressing that there are no plans or intentions to establish a US base in the Syrian town of Ayn al Arab (Kobani).
The United States supports and trains the Syria Democratic Forces, which are mostly made up of Kurdish fighters, which has angered Türkiye, which openly opposes this support.
The region has witnessed an escalation in clashes between the Syria Democratic Forces and Türkiye since the resignation of Syrian President Bashar al Assad.
US officials hope the SDF will be integrated into the new Syrian government.
