The Syrian Foreign Minister wrote on X, “I’ve just arrived in the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, accompanied by the Minister of Defense, Marhaf Abu Qasra, and the Head of General Intelligence, Anas Khattab… Through this first visit in the history of Free Syria, we aspire to open a new and bright page in Syrian-Saudi relations that befits the long-shared history between the two countries”.

Sheibani arrived in the capital, Riyadh, on Wednesday evening, on his first foreign visit after the overthrow of the Assad regime, in response to an invitation from his Saudi counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan.

The official Syrian delegation headed by Foreign Minister Asaad al Sheibani, Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra, and the head of the General Intelligence Service Anas Khattab, is arriving in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on the first official foreign visit after an invitation from the Saudi Foreign Minister.

This is the first visit of an official Syrian delegation abroad, after the formation of the transitional government, following the overthrow of Bashar al Assad’s regime.

On December 8, Syrian factions took control of Damascus days after taking control of other cities, ending 61 years of Baath Party rule and 53 years of Assad family rule.

The next day, the leader of the new Syrian administration, Ahmed al Sharaa, announced that Mohammed al Bashir, the head of the government that had been running Idlib for years, had been tasked with forming a new government to manage a transitional phase.
