Ali Larijani: We’ll support the new rulers in Syria if they defend their land and gives the Syrians their rights

The senior advisor to the Leader of the Revolution and the Islamic Republic in Iran, and a member of the Expediency Discernment Council of the System, Ali Larijani, stated on Wednesday evening that Iran’s interaction with the ruling movement in Syria depends on its behavior towards Tehran,

Larijani added that “Tehran has no problem dealing with them”.

Larijani said, “If the ruling movement in Syria says that we are defending the unity of our territories, and we want to give all Syrians their rights, and we want to establish a democratic structure in the country, then Iran will support it,” describing the political meetings being held today in Damascus as mostly “political gestures”.

Larijani wondered, saying, Will they (the ruling party in Syria) act on their words? We hope that Syria will be a democratic Islamic state, and that it will defend itself against Israel”.

He added that Israel believes that it can subjugate the peoples of the region with an iron fist, stressing that the awareness of the Syrian people will deepen, and they will stand against the oppressive Israeli behavior.

Larijani pointed out that Syrian society is now a troubled society, it’s a country in which another country takes part of it, and another country also controls its oil, stressing that in Syria there are different components that have their say and want their rights.

Earlier, the Secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Ali Akbar Ahmadian, condemned “the Zionist entity’s attacks on Syria,” noting that in light of “the Zionist entity’s occupation of Syrian lands, a new resistance will emerge in Syria in the coming years”.

Iran has confirmed more than once that it seeks to achieve security, stability, and the unity of Syrian territory, calling for respect for all religions and sects, and the formation of a comprehensive Syrian government.
