The Mastermind of the generals’ plan in Gaza: The military solution to end Hamas rule in Gaza has proven its failure
Giora Eiland, the architect of the Israeli generals’ plan that calls for besieging northern Gaza and displacing Palestinians from it, considered on Tuesday that the way to end Hamas rule in the Strip is not through a military solution.
He told Israeli radio 94 FM station, “Israel must declare its readiness to end the fighting in Gaza in exchange for the return of all the kidnapped (prisoners held by Palestinian factions in the Strip)”.
“The way to end Hamas rule isn’t through a military solution, which hasn’t proven effective,” added Eiland, a former head of the National Security Council.
He pointed out that the continuation of the current situation will only lead to the death of more kidnapped people and more deaths of Israeli soldiers and won’t achieve anything.
He continued, “Except for the dozens of soldiers who will die every year under military rule, you won’t achieve anything”.
Eiland is the architect of the so called “Generals’ Plan” that calls for besieging the northern Gaza Strip and displacing Palestinians from it.
Israeli military analysts say that Tel Aviv is actually implementing the plan in northern Gaza, but the army doesn’t acknowledge this.
Eiland’s statement comes at a time when Israel has been continuing an operation in northern Gaza since October 5, which has resulted in the killing or disappearance of more than 4,000 Palestinians.
On Friday, the Israeli delegation returned to Doha to resume indirect negotiations with Hamas, mediated by Qatar and Egypt.
The prisoner exchange negotiations, mediated by Qatar, Egypt and the United States, have stumbled more than once, due to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s insistence on continuing control over the Philadelphi Corridor on the border between Gaza and Egypt, and the Rafah crossing in Gaza, and preventing the return of Palestinian faction fighters to northern Gaza by searching returnees through the Netzarim corridor in the middle of the Strip.
For its part, Hamas insists on a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and a complete cessation of war, in order to accept any agreement.
The opposition and the families of Israeli prisoners accuse Netanyahu of obstructing an agreement to preserve his position, as extremist ministers, including National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, threaten to leave the government and bring it down if it accepts an end to the genocide in Gaza.
Tel Aviv is holding more than 10,300 Palestinians in its prisons, while it estimates that there are 100 Israeli prisoners in the Gaza Strip, while Hamas announced the killing of dozens of its prisoners in random Israeli raids.
