According to a news report, tangible progress has been made in contacts between the parties to form a government that would be an alternative to the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation stated that this change was achieved following the meeting that took place yesterday between the head of the “Yamina” Naftali Bennett and the head of the “United Arab List” Mansour Abbas.

The head of “There is a future” Yair Lapid also met MPs Ahmed al Tibi and Osama Saadi from the “Arab List for Change.”

Sources in the Arab party said that they tend to recommend that the book of assignment be referred to Lapid.

A source close to Netanyahu said that the possibility of his success in forming the government is almost non-existent.

Netanyahu was tasked by Israeli President Reuven Rivlin earlier this April with forming the new government, after inconclusive elections were the fourth in two years.

The results of the elections that took place on March 23 did not yield a clear winner, and the political spectrum in Israel remained generally divided into two parts, one loyal to Netanyahu and the other seeking to overthrow him.

Netanyahu’s Likud party led the election results, winning 30 seats in the 120-seat Knesset, followed by Yair Lapid, which ruled out an alliance with Likud, and won 17 seats.

And in third place came the religious conservative “Shas” party, with nine seats.
