The German domestic intelligence agency warns of danger from Russian military intelligence cyber unit
Germany’s domestic intelligence agency has warned of a cyber unit of Russia’s GRU military intelligence service, saying it has carried out cyber-attacks against NATO and European Union countries.
In a post on X on Monday, the agency said it was issuing the warning in collaboration with the FBI, the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the National Security Agency and other international partners.
The warning comes at a time of growing concern in Europe about the potential for Russian hackers and spies to launch cyber-attacks since Moscow invaded Ukraine in 2022.
Earlier this year, Berlin accused Russia of being behind a series of cyberattacks on the ruling Social Democratic Party and companies in the logistics, defense, space and IT sectors.
In its warning, the German agency said that the unit carries out activities for the purpose of spying, sabotaging websites on the Internet, and publishing stolen data.
