The German authorities are concerned that millions of citizens will not be able to pay for heating costs
Lukas Siebengten, head of the German Tenants’ Association, warned that millions of people in Germany may not be able to pay their heating bills due to rising gas prices.
“This is a hell of a lot of people,” Siebengten said, “We’re talking about millions”.
In this regard, the organization (the Tenants Union) calls for a comprehensive reform of the housing allowance system, as well as an increase in protection against dismissal, which will make life easier for tenants, to ease the burdens of price increases.
The energy sector is expected to collapse next winter in Germany and prices will rise due to the possibility of stopping Russian gas supplies.
German Economy Minister Robert Habeck and the head of the Federal Network Agency, Klaus Müller, have repeatedly urged the country’s citizens to reduce electricity consumption in order to save money.
