The funeral ceremony of Ismail Haniyeh took place in Tehran amid a popular and official presence
The funeral of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political bureau of the Palestinian Hamas movement, began early Thursday morning in the Iranian capital Tehran, with the participation of a large number of people and officials, including Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, according to local media.
Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency published a short video of the funeral ceremony, which was attended by a number of senior Hamas figures.
According to the official IRNA news agency, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei will lead funeral prayers.
On Wednesday morning, Hamas and Iran announced the assassination of Haniyeh in an Israeli air strike that targeted his residence in Tehran, the day after he participated in the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
While Israel remain silent, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has hinted at Tel Aviv’s responsibility for Haniyeh’s assassination.
