On Thursday, NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg appointed, in a historic step, Ms. Farah Dakhlallah, a British citizen of Arab origin, as the new spokesperson for the Alliance, replacing Ms. Oana Lungescu.

This appointment is considered historic, as Ms. Dakhlallah is the first person of Arab origin to be appointed to this important position.

Farah Dakhlallah, who is of Lebanese descent, brings a wide range of experiences to her new position.

Prior to assuming this position, she worked with the United Nations, as well as the British government, AstraZeneca, and several media organizations.

She is scheduled to assume the responsibilities of her new job in March 2024, amid geopolitical and security challenges that dominate the international arena at that time.

Ms. Farah Dakhlallah’s journey towards the position of NATO Spokesperson was marked by many prominent positions in the field of international affairs.

She holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Cambridge, and a Master’s degree in Media and Communications from the London School of Economics.

Ms. Farah Dakhlallah held important previous positions, including the position of Director of Media Relations for the Middle East and Africa at AstraZeneca, Director of Communications at the World Health Organization, as well as Arabic-speaking spokesperson for the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

With this diverse background, she possesses the skills necessary to interact in her new position in light of international challenges and complex international communication.

She will play a vital role in formulating NATO’s communication strategy and engaging with the media, especially in light of the current challenges of sensitive geopolitical and security situations.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stresses the importance of Ms. Farah’s role in achieving effective and transparent communication at this critical time.
