The European Union suddenly endorses the military coup in Gabon justifies it by the absence of democracy and the rigged elections

In a unique statement about coups, European Union foreign and defense policy official Josep Borrell said, Thursday, that the military coup in Gabon against President Ali Bango that took place yesterday cannot be compared to the coup in Niger, noting that the military in Libreville intervened after the elections marred by irregularities.
In a new position on the coup that took place on Wednesday in Gabon, Borrell explained, that the military coups aren’t the solution, of course, but we must not forget that in Gabon, elections were full of irregularities, and fraud is a civil institutional coup.
Borrell criticized Gabon president, the coup victim, by saying, “I cannot say that Gabon was a fully democratic country, with a family ruling the country for 50 years”.
The statements were issued by Borrell at a meeting in the city of Toledo, south of the capital, Madrid, on Thursday, which hosts a meeting of European Union ministers to address military coups in Africa, with a focus on Niger’s coup against President Mohamed Bazoum at the end of last July.
The summit is discussing the assistance of the West African Economic Community (ECOWAS) to deal with the Niger crisis politically, without excluding a military solution.
And reflecting the condemnation of the military coup by the United Nations and the African Union by a number of countries, led by France, the European Union took this surprising position because it is for the first time endorsing a military coup instead of demanding the reinstatement of the president and a new round of presidential elections that took place last Sunday, and resulted in the victory of Ali Bango with 63% of the vote, which prompted the army to stage a coup.
The military coup in Gabon appointed, on Wednesday night, the commander of the Republican Guard, General Brice Clothaire Oligui Nguema, as the president of the transitional period.
From the statements of the representative of the European Union Borrell, it is clear that the European Union prefers to be gentle with an important country such as Gabon, which is a source of oil for a number of European countries, and doesn’t witness terrorism and is not a source of migration towards Europe.
The European Union doesn’t want to put pressure on the ruling military group in Gabon so as not to push it into the arms of Russia and China.
