The Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that he will conduct a review and inspection of the military medical commissions, after it was found that officials had taken bribes to help thousands of young people evade conscription.

“Military medical commissions are being examined throughout the country,” Zelensky said during his speech on Wednesday night.

He added, “Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, on February 24, thousands of men of military age have evaded conscription and fled abroad, by offering bribes and unacceptable decisions by military medical commissions”.

Zelensky continued, “All those who accepted bribes will be brought to justice, and a large number of military medical committees’ decisions regarding disability and unfitness for military service that were taken after February 24 must be verified”.

Zelensky indicated that “the list of people who have traveled abroad due to questionable decisions will be reviewed”.

Ukrainian media reported that Zelensky’s office wants to revoke all certificates of unfitness and send nearly 170,000 people for re-examination.
