The British Prime Minister: Britons lives will get worse

Britain’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer will warn his fellow citizens on Tuesday, in his first speech since taking office, that their lives will get worse before they get better.

Labor party leader Starmer won the July 4 election by a wide margin and is expected to criticize the legacy of the previous Conservative government in the speech, excerpts of which have been released in advance.

“We’ve inherited a black hole in both the economy and society… So we need to act and do things differently,” Starmer said in his speech.

“This means being honest with people about the choices we face and the difficulties we will go through. Frankly, things will get worse before they get better,” he adds.

The British secretary of Finance, Rachel Reeves has previously warned that the new government will have to make difficult decisions on cutting spending and raising taxes in its first budget, due to be presented on October 30.

Since Labor’s victory, the Reeves has repeatedly accused the Conservatives, led by former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, of leaving a £22 billion (around $26 billion) gap in this year’s budget.

Her opponents claim she must have known about the country’s financial situation for months, and is simply priming people for unpopular ads.

Analysts believe voters may soon tire of hearing Labor constantly criticize the Conservative legacy rather than take action.

Starmer is expected to tell his fellow citizens that the situation is “worse than we imagined”.

According to him, the Office for Budget Responsibility (OPR) didn’t know about this, because the previous government hid it”.

Starmer is also expected to address the recent riots in the UK after a stabbing attack killed three young girls attending a dance class.
