Two senators from the US Congress called for the use of “National Guard” units to confront anti-Israel students at Columbia University in New York.

In a letter from Republican Senator Josh Hawley to US President Joe Biden, he claimed that Columbia University students pose a “danger to American Jewish students” because of the anti-Israel demonstrations.

Holley described the demonstrations at the university as “anti-Semitic”.

Hawley called on Biden to mobilize the National Guard and use other necessary measures to ensure the safety of American Jews, students and citizens.

For his part, Republican Senator Tom Cotton claimed in a post on X that the new pogrom at Columbia University must be stopped.

“Pogrom” is a name of Russian origin that indicates a form of riot directed against a specific group, whether ethnic, religious, or other.

Senator Tom Cotton stressed that if the mayor of New York doesn’t send the police, and the governor of New York state doesn’t move National Guard units to intervene in the demonstrations, he believes that Biden bears responsibility for dispersing the demonstrators.

Biden has previously condemned anti-Israel demonstrations at universities, especially Columbia University.

“I condemn the anti-Jewish demonstrations and have drawn up a program to confront them,” he said Tuesday.

“I also condemn those who don’t understand the situation of the Palestinians,” he added.
