
Syrian opposition factions made progress hours after a battle was launched in the southeastern countryside of Idlib on Saturday and took control of several villages.

A military commander in the National Liberation Front told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa that opposition factions took control of the villages of Rasm Al Ward, Sarooj, Stables and Ijaz southeast of Idlib after fierce battles against government forces, Iranian forces and Lebanese Hezbollah guerrillas, from which dozens fell, killed and wounded and several military vehicles were destroyed”.
“After the government forces lost their positions, dozens of rockets were fired at the towns of Kafarsijnah and the vicinity of Kfroma town and the villages of Muwqa, Ziyan and Tahtaya in the southern countryside of Idlib”, the military commander added.
Sources close to the Syrian government forces told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa that the Syrian army was responding to a violent attack by armed groups affiliated to HTS / Jabhat Al Nusra and the Ajnad Al Caucas on villages in the southeastern countryside of Idlib.
