Syria: The Turkistan Group dissolves itself and emerged with the new Syrian army formation

Syrian sources revealed that the Turkistan Islamic Party has decided to officially dissolve itself, in a surprise move aimed at integrating itself into the structure of the new Syrian Ministry of Defense, as the group is now known as the 88th Division of the New Syrian Army.

This move represents a Syrian attempt to address the issue of foreign fighters by integrating them into official institutions and granting them Syrian citizenship.

This approach differs from repeated US demands to exclude or expel these fighters from positions of influence within the military establishment.

Sources believe this issue was present during the meeting between Syrian transitional president Ahmed al Sharaa and US President Donald Trump in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, where the option of integrating adaptable fighters into the Ministry of Defense was discussed, in exchange for deporting or arresting those who refuse.

They indicate that this proposal falls within a flexible approach to addressing the complexities of the foreign fighter issue.
