The Israeli army deliberately set fires on Friday in Syrian territory in the Quneitra Governorate countryside, east of the separation fence with the occupied Golan Heights, according to official Syrian media.

According to sources in the Syrian capital, Damascus, Israeli occupation forces deliberately set fire to dozens of dunams (one dunam equals 1,000 square meters) of land along the separation fence with the occupied Golan Heights, west of the town of al Rafid in the Quneitra countryside,” in the southwest of the country.

The inforamtion said that, UNDOF forces are attempting to extinguish the fires using primitive means amid significant difficulties,” without immediately providing further details.

This action comes amid escalating Israeli attacks and violations of Syrian territory since the fall of the Assad’s regime in late 2024 and the assumption of power by a new Syrian administration.

In an interview by Turkish official Anadolu Agency, Muhammad al Saeed, the deputy governor of Quneitra, said that after the fall of the Assad regime, Israel established more than eight military bases in the north of the province, extending as far as the Yarmouk Basin, within the buffer zone stipulated in the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement, considering this as a clear violation of the agreement.

He complained that Israeli violations and the construction of military bases in the area have led to the closure of approximately 6,000 hectares (one hectare equals 10,000 square meters) of agricultural land and pastures to civilians, causing a large number of families to lose their source of income, which is based on raising livestock.
