Syria: Israeli air strikes Aleppo airport again and strikes Syrian targeted in Golan
Israeli air strikes targeted the airport in the city of Aleppo in Syria on Saturday, wounding five people, days after similar raids targeted the airports of Aleppo and Damascus.
According to sources in Damascus, Israeli air strikes coming from the sea side hit Aleppo international airport.
The Syrian Ministry of Defense confirmed the raids after midnight on Sunday.
The Syrian Ministry of Defense said in a statement, “At approximately 11:35 PM on Saturday 10/14/2023, the Israeli enemy carried out an air aggression from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea, west of Latakia, targeting Aleppo International Airport, which led to material damage to the airport and it being out of service”.
The Syrian Ministry of Defense criticized Israel, saying that “the attack is a confirmation of the criminal approach of the Israeli occupation entity, which is clearly embodied today in its continuing crimes against the Palestinian people”.
On Thursday, Israeli strikes put the main airports in Damascus and Aleppo out of service, in the first attack of its kind since the Hamas operation against Israel at the weekend.
The Israeli new attack on Aleppo international airport, on Saturday, came just hours after it was restored to service, after it was fixed after the Israeli attack few days ago, which led to it being out of service again.
Israeli strikes repeatedly caused the suspension of flights at the airports of the capital, Damascus, and the Syrian major in the north, Aleppo.
The Israeli army announced that it bombed areas in Syria on Saturday after issuing an air strike warning in settlements in the occupied Golan Heights, against the backdrop of the conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army said in a statement, “Following initial reports of sirens being heard in the towns of Avnei Eitan and Alma, IDF artillery is currently shelling the source of the fire in Syria”.
In a later statement, the Israeli army said that “two missiles were launched from Syria towards Israeli territory and landed in an open area”.
The army said that it was also investigating the possibility of air infiltration from Lebanon.
