Syria is the last on the list according to the annual report of the US intelligence community
Among the twenty direct or serious threats that could face the United States during the next year, according to the classification of the annual report of global threats to US national security, talk about Syria came almost at the bottom of these threats.
The report, which reflects the collective views of the intelligence community (IC), provides “the accurate, independent and unpolished intelligence information that policymakers, combatants, and local law enforcement personnel need to protect American lives and America’s interests anywhere in the world”.
Although the report states that the order of the topics presented in this evaluation does not necessarily indicate their relative importance, or the size of the threats, the general policies followed by the Biden administration in the previous period towards Syria were, in fact, indicating the reflection of this arrangement on them.
The rise of China to global power, followed by Russian provocations, then Iran, and then North Korea is on the list of the largest international threats to the United States, then talk about the dangers of transnational issues, the Covid-19 epidemic, climate change and environmental degradation, emerging technology, and Cyber-attacks, drug trafficking, organized crime, immigration, and global terrorism, to return to review international conflicts and instability, and its effects on US national security, and start with Afghanistan, then India and Pakistan, then the Middle East, and here it deals with the situation in Syria through a few lines, then the situation in Myanmar, to conclude with the expected conflicts in some African and Latin American countries due to corruption and fraudulent elections.
The report assesses the situation in Syria from three main perspectives:
The first: the use of the Syrian card as a bargaining chip on the part of Russia, to achieve political gains in other files such as Ukraine and Libya, and increase its regional and international influence “with the aim of undermining American influence, developing new international standards and partnerships, dividing Western countries and weakening Western alliances, and demonstrating Russia’s ability to form Global events as a major player in a new multipolar international order, ”according to the report. Iran for its part exercised something of the Russian role, as well as to increase its influence in Syria poses a threat to Israeli security.
The second: the threat posed by the proliferation of terrorist organizations, especially ISIS, where it’s still organizing calls for attacks against the United States and the goals of other international, taking advantage of spaces non – controlled Syrian government to regroup.
The third: the threat that could result from a new wave of migration of Syrian refugees towards neighboring countries and the European Union, and its reflection on the internal conditions in those countries.
Limiting the perception of the dangers and threats resulting from the situation in Syria to the American national security in these three angles, making the report of the US intelligence community not attaching high importance to the events in Syria, especially with the absence of the risks of terrorism and immigration to the United States, as ISIS is no longer able to launch attacks Great on American interests, and of course the United States will not suffer from any possible next wave of asylum, due to its geographical distance.
