Senator Bernie Sanders will introduce a draft resolution to Congress to stop arms sales to Israel
US Senator Bernie Sanders confirmed that there are more massacres in Gaza, with military equipment provided by the United States, and asked, “Why would the United States agree to sell another $20 billion worth of weapons to Israel?”
He also said he would act to prevent these weapons… Not another penny for Netanyahu’s illegal war.
Sanders confirmed that 60% of the casualties of the Israeli war on Gaza were women and children, noting that 90% of the population of Gaza were displaced due to the war.
He concluded his statement by announcing his intention to submit a draft resolution for a vote in Congress to stop the sale of approximately $20 billion in weapons to Israel.
The Washington Post had commented a few weeks ago on the British government’s decision to immediately suspend some arms exports to Israel due to its violation of international humanitarian law, by conducting a comprehensive inventory of the countries that preceded Britain in this decision, and announced the suspension or restriction of arms exports to Israel.
The Washington Post recalled Italy’s announcement late last year that it had stopped sending weapons to Israel, and indicated that some arms exports continued, due to respecting existing requests, and its condition that weapons not be used against civilians.
In the Netherlands, a court ordered the Dutch government to suspend the export of F-35 fighter jet parts to Israel, citing clear risks of serious violations of international humanitarian law, in response to a lawsuit filed by Oxfam Novib and two other rights groups.
The Supreme Court is due to hear the Dutch government’s appeal against the decision this week.
In Belgium, local media reported that the Wallonia region suspended two licenses to export gunpowder to Israel in February, following an order from the International Court of Justice the previous month ordering Israel to do more to prevent the killing of civilians in Gaza.
In March, Canada’s foreign ministry said the country hadn’t approved any arms export permits to Israel since January 8, noting that the halt would continue until it could ensure full compliance by Israel with export controls.
