Russian nuclear submarine arrives in Cuba to participate in exercise Infront of the eyes of US navy
The Cuban Foreign Ministry announced that 3 nuclear ships and submarines of the Russian Navy arrived in the port of the capital, Havana.
The Cuban Foreign Ministry said in a statement Wednesday that the Russian ships and submarine will dock in the port of Havana from June 12 to 17.
The statement touched on the historical friendly relations between the two countries, noting that the Russian sailors will visit the Revolutionary Naval Command and the governor of Havana.
As the Russian fleet approached the port of Havana, the FARC fired cannons from the San Carlos de la Cabana fortress to celebrate its arrival.
The Cuban Foreign Ministry said in a statement on June 6 that the Russian ships don’t carry nuclear weapons, so their stopover in our country does not represent a threat to the region.
The US Navy sent warships and aircraft to its southern shores after the Russian navy visiting Cuba approached the southern coast of Florida.
A statement by the US Northern Forces Command published by the Miami Herald newspaper said it had deployed 3 destroyers and a reconnaissance aircraft in the area to monitor Russian naval vessels.
The US isn’t concerned about the Russian fleet’s presence in the region and its activities, but has nevertheless authorized the deployment of US warships to monitor it as it approaches nearly 50 kilometers from the coast of South Florida.
