Russia turns the S500 system into F35 killer
American expert Wesley Kolb believes that Russia wants to turn the new S500 Prometheus air defense system into a killer for American F35 and F22 stealth fighters.
The S500 combat system is Russia’s newest and most advanced air defense system.
It is being armed to deal with various types of air threats, including advanced US fighters such as the F22 or F35.
According to the expert, the new weapon of Russia doesn’t yet have much combat experience, but it is clear that it has really great capabilities.
The author of the American publication said: “No one knows exactly how dangerous the S500 air defense system is in combat with the best American stealth fighters, such as the F22 and F35.
The expert stated that the information regarding the technical characteristics of the S500 is strictly confidential.
All that is known about the new Russian system is that the new range is between 500 and 600 km.
It is also believed that the combat complex is capable of hitting targets at an altitude of up to 200 km.
“The complex is being advertised as a weapon capable of striking fifth-generation fighters, as well as ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and even low-orbit satellites,” Wesley Kolb said.
The S-500 is not intended to replace its predecessor, the S-400 air defense system.
The modern weapon will be a kind of addition to the existing air defense systems.
Prometheus will be used to deal with the kinds of threats that the rest of Russia’s air defense systems won’t be able to counter.
The expert stated that at the moment it is not possible to verify how the S500 performs in combat against US 5th generation fighters.
One thing is clear: Russia will try to turn it into an effective way to combat it.
The American expert believes that “although the characteristics of the Russian S500 remain classified, it is clear that Prometheus will play a major role in the Russian air defense system.
