Russia announced that it shot down a Ukrainian drone on Thursday in the Moscow region, in an attack that caused no victims, according to the mayor of the capital.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced via Telegram on Thursday morning that the air defenses … destroyed the drone over the territory of the Voskresensky district in the vicinity of Moscow to the southeast of the capital, accusing Kiev of carrying out the attack.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Telegram that the march was heading towards Moscow.

“There were no injuries or damages recorded, according to preliminary information,” he added, noting that emergency equipment was at the site.

Moscow’s Vnukovo International Airport was closed to traffic on Thursday morning.

In recent weeks, attacks by drones against Russian lands and Crimea, which Moscow annexed in 2014, have increased, especially targeting the Russian capital, as part of the Kiev counterattack that began in early June.

A drone attack on Wednesday destroyed or injured several military aircraft at Pskov airport, in a rare incident in northwestern Russia.

On the other hand, the Russian army announced the destruction of drones over the regions of Bryansk, Orel, Kaluga and Ryazan in western Moscow, as well as in Crimea.
