Pentagon official: There are no plans to reduce our forces in Syria
A Pentagon official confirmed, that there are no current plans to modify the size of the US military presence in Syria and Iraq.
This was in response to a report published by Foreign Policy magazine, which indicated that there was a discussion about how and when to withdraw US forces from Syria, and although this discussion existed, no official decision to withdraw had been taken yet.
The Foreign Policy magazine explained that there is a decline in the White House’s investment in the ongoing mission in Syria, with its assessment that it’s no longer necessary.
However, there remains a debate within the administration about when and how to withdraw forces.
The Foreign Policy magazine warned that the withdrawal of forces at this time may lead to the strengthening of ISIS, which is trying to regain its influence in Syria.
Despite its weakness, ISIS remains a danger, and the withdrawal of US forces in this context may be considered a retreat by some powers such as Iran.
