On Friday, the media announced the death of Ayman al Zawahiri, the leader of the terrorist organization, who took over the leadership of the terrorist organization after the killing of Osama bin Laden, pointing out that he “died in Afghanistan, due to natural causes”.

A report by the Saudi English-language daily Arab News, citing 4 sources in Pakistan and Afghanistan who spoke informally, as they were not authorized to speak to the media about the issue, stated that “al Zawahiri (68 years old) died of natural causes related to asthma”.

This came days after reports spread about the death of “al Zawahiri” on social media.

Ayman al Zawahiri’s last appearance was in a video message commemorating the 9/11 attacks on the United States.

The newspaper emphasized that “US intelligence officials are aware of the reports and are trying to verify their authenticity”.

Press reports says that, al Zawahiri died last week in Ghazni, southwest of the capital, Kabul, due to asthma because he had not received any official treatment”.

In the context, a Pakistani security official, residing in the tribal areas bordering Afghanistan, said, “We believe that he is no longer alive.

We are firm that he died of natural causes”.

Another source close to al Qaeda said that he “died earlier this month and a few of his followers attended his funeral”.

“What we do know is that he was suffering from breathing problems, and he died somewhere in Afghanistan,” the source added.

The FBI still includes al Zawahiri on the most wanted terrorists list, and the reward for reporting him is $ 25 million.

Ayman al Zawahiri, a former Egyptian ophthalmologist, succeeded bin Laden after US special forces killed him in a raid on his compound in 2011.

Ayman al Zawahiri’s death comes after the death of the second man in the organization, Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah, also known as Abu Muhammad al Masri.

On November 14, the New York Times reported that Abdullah Ahmad Abdullah was assassinated by Israeli agents on the streets of the Iranian capital, Tehran, three months ago.

The newspaper, citing intelligence officials, said Abdullah, accused of being one of the masterminds of the 1998 attacks on US embassies in Africa, was killed in a covert operation in Iran three months ago.

Intelligence officials added that Abdullah was killed and his daughter Maryam, who is the widow of Hamza, Osama bin Laden’s son.
