Israeli reports revealed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu undergo surgery to remove his prostate in an underground facility at the Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center in Jerusalem, after news of his cancer, according to Israeli media.

Israel’s Channel 12 reported in a report on Sunday that the surgery performed in a reinforced operating room, amid fears of rockets being fired during the operation, after rockets were fired from Yemen and Gaza towards the Jerusalem area during the past 48 hours.

Netanyahu’s lawyer said earlier that Netanyahu would be under general anesthesia and would remain in the hospital “for several days” after the surgery.

Israeli Justice Minister Yariv Levin will temporarily serve as acting prime minister while Netanyahu undergoes surgery, according to Israeli media, while Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz will be authorized to convene the security cabinet if necessary.

According to the Mayo Clinic website, patients who undergo prostatectomy usually leave the hospital after one to two days, but they will likely be discharged with a catheter in place for 7 to 10 days after surgery.

Usually, patients resume their activities slowly over time, and patients can return to their normal routine in about 4 to 6 weeks.
