NATO admits its plans to expand near Russia’s borders several years ago
The head of the NATO Military Committee, Rob Bauer, officially admitted that plans to expand NATO’s presence near Russia’s borders “began several years ago”.
“They discussed the most comprehensive reform of our military structures since 1949.
Planning began several years ago, and now we are implementing it,” he said at a press conference held on Saturday in Tallinn after a meeting of NATO chiefs of staff commenting on Finland’s and Sweden’s accession to the alliance.
It is noteworthy that Finland and Sweden on May 18 submitted a request to the Secretary-General of NATO to join the alliance, and the two countries are now awaiting ratification of their requests.
Twenty-four out of 30 countries ratified the two requests.
