Turkish Foreign Minister Mouloud Gawish oglu, and during answering  journalists’ questions after the meeting with his US counterpart Mike Pompeo on Tuesday, said, that “Turkey’s purchase of Russia’s S-400 surface-to-surface missile system was a done deal and it cannot be canceled”.

“Ankara needs more defense procurement that can be brought from the United States”, he said.

The Pentagon spokesman Eric Bahon told Russian Novosti news agency, that the United States Defense Secretary James Mattis is discussing with Congress what can be offered to Turkey in return for abandoning the Russian S-400 system.

The US CNBC channel noted that the US, under the CAATSA, does not encourage other countries to purchase Russian weapons, especially the S-300 and S-400 systems, and threatens to impose sanctions if they do so.

US diplomats offer to buy US weapons and missile systems in return for abandoning Russian defense systems, despite their knowledge that the former cannot match the latter.

According to the State Department, the United States has already broken billions of dollars in contracts for Russian military industries.

“We are currently engaged in diplomatic discussions on this issue”, Bahon told Russian Novosti news agency.

“On November 9, we sent a report on relations with Turkey to Congress”.

“Now we are in diplomatic negotiations with Ankara to look for possible alternatives to the replacement of the S-400, and continue to work with Turkey, as well as with Congress in an effort to find such alternatives”.

According to him, the United States once again reminded Turkish colleagues of “serious consequences” for the relations between the two countries, which would result in the purchase of Russian air defense systems.

A loan agreement was signed between Moscow and Ankara to supply the S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems in December 2017.

Turkey will pay part of the value of the deal itself, and the other part of a loan granted to it by Russia.

Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said earlier that the installation of S-400 systems in Turkey would start in October 2019.

It’s worth mentioning the at least 13 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Morocco, Egypt, Vietnam and Iraq, are interested in buying Russian S-400 air defense systems.
