Moscow is preparing for a Syrian-Turkish meeting
The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Moscow welcomes the Turkish president’s readiness to discuss holding a meeting with the Syrian president, and also supports the idea of organizing a meeting between the foreign ministers of Türkiye and Syria, and assisting in that.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said: “Moscow supports the idea of organizing a meeting of the foreign ministers of Türkiye and Syria… and we are ready to help hold it if necessary”.
“We think the meeting will be beneficial,” he added.
We’re talking about establishing contacts between the two sides.
Currently, contacts are taking place at the military and intelligence levels between the two sides… We support this meeting and encourage them to do so”.
Bogdanov stressed that Moscow “calls for the normalization of relations between Ankara and Damascus”.
And the deputy minister continued, “If they want, we are always ready to create that”.
On the other hand, Bogdanov expressed Moscow’s welcome to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s willingness to discuss holding a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al Assad.
The Turkish newspaper, Hurriyet, had recently reported a statement by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in which he said that he was ready to meet Syrian President Bashar al Assad on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Samarkand, if the latter had attended there.
