The Malian government has given the Swedish ambassador 72 hours to leave the country, following a statement by the Swedish Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Johan Forssell, regarding Mali.

The Malian Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted on X that it had summoned the Swedish ambassador to the Foreign Ministry building on Friday, and give her 72 hours to leave Malian territory, following the hostile statement of the Minister of International Cooperation and Trade regarding Mali, adding that it would issue a statement later.

The Swedish Minister of Foreign Trade had previously said that his country had decided to abandon its Mali aid strategy this year because Bamako had severed diplomatic relations with Ukraine.

Mali severed diplomatic relations with Ukraine on Monday, accusing it of supporting terrorism, after spokesman for Ukraine’s military intelligence agency, said, “the Azawad armed forces had obtained all the necessary information they needed, not just that which allowed a successful military operation against Russian war criminals,” adding, “We certainly won’t go into details now… You’ll see more of this in the future”.
