Maariv: The Israeli army is suffering a serious problem that will cast a shadow over the battles
The military correspondent for the Maariv newspaper, Avi Ashkenazi, revealed that the Israeli army is suffering from a serious problem that casts a shadow over the army’s work, while no one is talking about it.
Ashkenazi explained that after talking about the shortage of ammunition, the army finds itself at this stage facing another challenge, which is the approaching start of the university year at the end of this month.
He added that there is great fear that a large number of reserve soldiers will refuse to perform service, especially since tens of thousands of students have been recruited into reserve service since the beginning of the war.
Ashkenazi pointed out that what makes the matter more complicated is that the army is fighting on seven fronts and maneuvering on land on two fronts, in addition to the war lasting longer than expected.
Ashkenazi explained that a large number of reserve soldiers had postponed their academic studies during the past year; however, they told their commanders that they weren’t prepared to lose another year because they feared that their academic efforts over the past years would be lost.
Ashkenazi confirmed that the army leaders will find it difficult to oblige the soldiers to continue performing military service until the completion of the ground maneuvers on the Gaza front and the Lebanon front, because tens of thousands of them are serving on each of those fronts.
He pointed out that the academic year, which will begin in a few days, will cast its shadow over the army’s work, and unit leaders will find a problem and challenge in filling the ranks, which will push them to search for creative solutions to carry out the tasks.
