Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris appeared to claim that Israel is committing genocide, describing it as real, during a lecture in Milwaukee on Thursday, The Jerusalem Post reported.

The Jerusalem Post explained – in a clipping by Matilda Healy – that videos circulating on social media showed Kamala Harris addressing a group of students at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Saturday evening before a student interrupted her and asked her to talk about the genocide in Gaza.

Harris tells the students she cares deeply about you before being interrupted by a student who says, and the genocide, right?

The billions of dollars you’ve invested in genocide?

Harris responds by saying she respects the student’s right to speak.

“I respect your right to speak… I’m speaking now, and I know what you’re talking about… I want a ceasefire… I want the war to end”.

The keffiyeh-clad student continued to ask her about genocide as he made his way through the crowd toward her, before she pointed at him and security escorting him out of the room and told the crowd, “Listen, what he’s talking about is real… This isn’t the topic I came here to discuss today, but it’s real… I respect his opinion”.

The student was removed by university police and charged with disorderly conduct, according to a university spokesperson.

Commenting on this, former US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman told the New York Post that Harris just publicly proved the false and malicious accusation that Israel is engaged in genocide.

“Many, including myself, have always suspected that she had a distorted, anti-Semitic view of Israeli self-defense against the barbarism of Hamas, but now the cat is out of the bag,” he told the newspaper on Saturday.

“Her view is ignorant and malicious… Giving public credence to this slander of disgusting bloody crimes disqualifies Harris from holding any public office, let alone the presidency”.

The Jerusalem Post newspaper pointed out that the student is a member of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Popular Coalition for Palestine, which posted a video on its Instagram account, and wrote that it organized a massive student protest against Harris’ lecture in 4 locations outside the hall, and that one of the students interrupted the lecture.

“Upon exiting the event, her motorcade was forced to pass directly past all of the protesters,” the statement added, according to the Milwaukee Sentinel, which said Harris’ motorcade passed pro-Palestinian protesters on campus.
