Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov commented on Saturday on Israel’s assassination of Lebanese Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, saying, “We shouldn’t resort to terrorist means and bloodshed for political calculations”.

This came in a press conference held by Lavrov at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

The Russian Foreign Minister pointed out that this isn’t the first political assassination carried out by Israel.

He recalled that Israel killed the head of the political bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, in Iran at the end of last July, and bombed the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Syria at the beginning of last April.

Lavrov explained that many believe that Israel is trying to drag the United States into a direct conflict in the Middle East.

“This is why Israel is trying to provoke Iran and Hezbollah,” he added.

In the same context, the Russian Foreign Minister said that Iran continues to show responsible behavior towards Israeli provocations, stressing the necessity of this.

Lavrov accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of following the same approach of provocation, as he considered that Zelensky is trying to drag NATO countries into direct conflict.

“I don’t think this is the right way… Terrorist means and bloodshed shouldn’t be used in political calculations,” he said.
