Kamala Harris pledges to end the war in Gaza with keep on standing with Israel’s right to defend itself

Kamala Harris urged Americans to reject political division and chart what she called a “new way forward” as she accepted her party’s nomination while mixing her resume with warnings about the possibility of Donald Trump returning to the White House.

Taking the stage to a standing ovation at the conclusion of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, the vice president said her personal story and background as a prosecutor made her uniquely qualified to protect Americans’ interests against a former president she described as not having his own interests in mind.

“Our nation has a precious and fleeting opportunity in this election to move beyond the bitterness, cynicism, and divisive battles of the past… An opportunity to chart a new path forward… Not as members of one party or one faction, but as Americans,” Harris said.

“I promise to be a president for all Americans, and to uphold America’s constitutional principles, and the fundamental principles of the rule of law, fair elections, and the peaceful transfer of power,” she continued.

The current US Vice President pledged to work to end the war in Gaza in order to bring stability to the rest of the region, and to “always stand by Israel’s right to defend itself,” pushing for the release of the hostages and implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

“What has happened in Gaza over the past 10 months has been devastating,” Harris said, adding, “So many innocent lives have been lost, desperate, hungry people are fleeing to safety again and again… The scale of the suffering is heartbreaking”.

Meanwhile, pro-Palestinian protesters and members of the nonconformist movement in the square sharply criticized the conference organizers for not inviting a Palestinian-American on stage.

In another aspect, Harris has promised to strengthen US ties with NATO allies and said the country should continue to support Ukraine in its war with Russia, on the other hand, Trump and fellow candidate J.D. Vance have repeatedly questioned US support for Ukraine.

“I’ll never hesitate to defend America’s security and its ideals, because in the ever-present struggle between democracy and tyranny, I know where I stand and I know where the United States belongs,” Harris said.

Harris has pledged to restore access to abortion across the country after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, as she criticized Trump and Republicans who enabled abortion bans in 20 states and sought to push it forward, adding, “They have lost their minds”.

Harris, the daughter of Jamaican and Indian immigrants, became the first black woman and person of South Asian descent to accept a major party’s presidential nomination, and would become the first female president if elected.
