Kamala Harris plans to unveil her vice-presidential nominee on Tuesday, her first major decision as a Democratic presidential nominee and another step in her bid to win the US election in November.

Harris, the first woman and first black and South Asian to serve as vice president, has narrowed her list of candidates for the post to Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Minnesota Governor Tim Wales, after considering a final set of white men with a record of winning white voters, independents or rural residents.

A campaign official said there were no contacts about the selection on Monday evening, meaning Harris didn’t tell potential candidates who would get the chance to nominate.

Harris is expected to appear with her race mate at an event in Philadelphia on Tuesday night.

Her choice will be a reflection of her way of thinking about how best to support her presidential victory, and will also make it clear who she believes will be her effective governing partner if she succeeds in beating Republican rival Donald Trump.
