Israeli reports: The Syrian president seeks to make Syria a monarchy so that his son becomes king after him
The Syrian President Bashar al Assad is seeking to change his country’s system of government to a republican monarchy, and has recently been trying to examine matters with specialists from his country, in order to confirm the rule of his son after him and grant his family members privileges under the new system.
According to Israeli reports, Assad saw that the monarchy regimes in the region were the only ones that withstood the Arab Spring, and he believes that this solution will provide him and his family with immunity from any future developments.
Assad believes that announcing a change in regime will exempt him and his family members from international legal accountability in the future.
The Syrian president doesn’t participate in meetings much and no longer has patience for long meetings, encounters, and calls, therefore, he entrusts his wife Asma’a with most of the economically important matters and his brother Maher with internal matters, and he doesn’t trust anyone except the head of intelligence, the head of the bureau, and his media advisor.
According to the report, Assad spends a lot of time in the swimming pool and the sports club and watching television, and he’s interested in spending time in the security office in the palace and in the economic office, where most of the employees are women and it’s completely under his wife management.
Assad believes that ensuring that his family remains ruling in Syria contributes to the stability of the country, especially since the Alawites start to raise their voices against him, and expressing more anger at him, due to the pity economic situation.
So, he will try to find some sort of harmony in order to secure his family in power, and keep the support of the Alawites without losing Sunnis in the country as well.
According to the British intelligence MI6, Assad’s family wealth is estimated at 200 tons of gold, 16 billion dollars, and 5 billion Euros.
