Israeli military prosecutor found alive after disappearing
Israeli police said Sunday they had found military prosecutor Yifat Tomer Yerushalmi alive hours after she went missing.
The Israeli official broadcasting authority quoted police as saying that their crews were able to locate the plaintiff, Yerushalmi, and that she was in good health.
Yerushalmi was dismissed on Saturday following the leak of a video showing the torture of Palestinian prisoners in the notorious Sde Teiman prison.
According to Israeli Channel 12 reported that Yerushalmi had been missing since the morning hours, while the Israeli Broadcasting Authority said that the Chief of Staff of the Army, Eyal Zamir, instructed the army forces to make every possible effort to find her.
The agency noted that the plaintiff had left a suicide note at her home, without providing further details.
The leaked video sparked a wave of local and international outrage, while prosecutor Yerushalmi indicated that she bears responsibility for publishing media materials to counter the false propaganda of Israeli army officials.
It’s worth noting that, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir announced Monday the arrest of the army’s former military prosecutor as part of an investigation into the leak of a video showing soldiers abusing a Palestinian detainee in a military prison in 2024.
The Israeli army announced on Friday that Yerushalmi had resigned as part of the investigation into the leak showing soldiers assaulting a detainee at Sde Teiman prison.
She was missing for several hours on Sunday, prompting speculation in Israeli media that she may have committed suicide.
“In light of last night’s events, it was agreed that the Prison Service would act with extra vigilance to ensure the safety of the detainee at the detention center where she was placed in custody,” Ben Gafir wrote on Telegram.
