An Israeli security source said on Monday evening that the Israeli Air Force, conducted attacks with more than 250 targets inside Syrian territory since the fall of Bashar al Assad’s regime, including military bases, fighter jets and missile systems.
The Israeli Army Radio quoted the source, without naming him, as saying, “We attacked more than 250 targets in Syria since the fall of the regime in one of the largest offensive operations in the history of the Israeli Air Force”.
He explained that the attack included “Assad’s army bases, dozens of fighter jets, dozens of surface-to-air missile systems, production sites and weapons depots, and surface-to-surface missiles”.
For its part, Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper said, “For the first time in more than 5 decades, Israel attacked entire Syrian air bases”.
Israel has spotted a historic opportunity that won’t be repeated to deal a fatal blow to the last important weapon it has left in Syria.
Since the fall of the Assad regime, hundreds of Israeli Air Force fighter jets and various drones have been participating in wide waves of attacks throughout Syria, around the clock.
So far, according to various estimates from intelligence sources in the West, about 300 attacks have been carried out on various military targets, especially the Syrian Air Force.
The last time Israel destroyed an entire air force of an enemy state, Egypt, was in the Six-Day War (June 1967).
“It’s not unlikely that within a few days the Syrian Air Force will be practically destroyed, and the rebels won’t be able to use air platforms,” according to the Israeli newspaper.
On Sunday, Tel Aviv announced the collapse of the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement with Syria, and the deployment of the Israeli army in the demilitarized buffer zone in the Syrian Golan Heights, most of which it has occupied since 1967.

The ongoing Israeli bombing since Sunday, led to the destruction of all the warplane squadrons at the airports, in addition to radars and weapons depots.
For its part, Israel said earlier that it had carried out strikes against chemical weapons sites and missile depots in Syria, as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of Israeli citizens after the fall of Bashar al Assad.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said in a press conference on Monday that the opposition groups that took over Damascus were people with an extremist ideology of radical Islam, adding, “Our only interest is the security of Israel and its citizens… That’s why we attacked strategic weapons systems, such as the remaining chemical weapons, or long-range missiles and shells, so that they wouldn’t fall into the hands of extremists”ز
