Israel begins construction of a massive military base in southern Syria

The Israeli army continues to carry out extensive bulldozing operations in the forested area of ​​the Quneitra countryside in northern Syria, in preparation for the construction of a large military base, according to local sources in the southern Syrian province.

The Syrian local sources explained that the stated goal of these operations is to improve the scope of monitoring and surveillance in the area, which suffers from difficulty in ground surveillance due to the dense tree cover.

As part of these steps, the Israeli army is transporting large concrete slabs and other heavy equipment in preparation for the construction of a new military base in the Jubata al Khashab forest, which the Israeli army seized last December.

Since the fall of the Assad regime, Israel has begun establishing a network of military bases, trenches, and observation towers in areas it controls within Syrian territory, under the pretext of protecting itself from any potential attacks by Iranian-backed armed factions or Syrian forces. Israeli aircraft have launched hundreds of airstrikes, resulting in the near-total destruction of the regime’s military infrastructure in various provinces.

The bulldozing and control of more Syrian territory is part of an Israeli plan to expand its influence in southern Syria, where the area it controls now exceeds 665 square kilometers.

Since last December, Israeli forces have been strengthening their military fortifications by constructing more than 15 observation bases.

In addition, Israeli army patrols continue to raid the occupied territories and conduct searches among civilians for weapons.

These operations are often followed by the arrest of a number of citizens.

The Israeli army has also transformed many towns within its areas of control into closed military zones, disrupting daily life and forcing many residents to flee to safer areas.

In a move that further increases the military threat to Syria, the Israeli military has established a helicopter airfield just 30 kilometers from the capital, Damascus, in the city of Qatana in the northern Quneitra countryside.

This airfield enhances Israel’s ability to control the airspace and expands its threat to the capital, especially given the presence of advanced Israeli radar systems in Quneitra that monitor the entire region.
